About the APA of Polk County

We are Robin and Russ Dunnam. Russ has lived and worked in Hillsborough County all of his life and Robin moved here in 1972. We have one daughter, who is now an adult, in college studying to be a veterinarian. Our families also live in Hillsborough County. We first became interested in APA when Russ joined a team run by the guys of Robin’s women’s softball team. Since the first break we were hooked. We purchased the franchise from Pat and Dick Giorgianni in May 2008. We strive to continue the great customer service that APA members in Polk County have come to expect. We believe that APA is the best format for playing organized pool, for both the experienced players and the beginners. Russ started as a skill level 4 and is now a 5, while Robin started as a 2 and is now a 3. We believe that the Equalizer® handicapping system, the league structure, the formats, and the tournaments make APA the best way to play weekly league play.

APA Polk County was formed May 4th, 2008. We offer both 8-Ball and 9-Ball, Masters, Scotch Doubles in 8 and 9-Ball. We can form divisions any place within the Polk County lines. In the past, Polk County was combined with the Brandon area of Hillsborough County for its 8-Ball and 9-Ball local team championships. We are pleased to announce that Polk County now has its very own 8-Ball and 9-Ball local team championships. We are sending (1) 8-Ball team and (1) 9-Ball team to Las Vegas to compete with other teams from the United States, Canada and Japan for over 1.5 Million Dollars in prize money. Our teams will receive travel assistance funds to help cover the cost of the trip. Each team who makes it to Las Vegas is already a winner with $350 upon registration at the Rivera Casino.

This year we will send (2) 8-Ball Scotch Doubles teams and (2) 9-Ball Scotch Doubles teams and (2) Masters teams to compete in the Championships in Las Vegas. This is a new format for Polk County and we hope that we will expand it to be able to add travel assistance for all these slots also. This year we were able to offer travel assistance to (1) 8-Ball and (1) 9-Ball Doubles teams. Along with these slots we were able to send 5 additional people from our area to compete in the Mini Mania tournaments in Las Vegas during the National Team Championships. Each person received $400 in travel assistance.

We currently have 30 8-Ball teams and 10 9-Ball teams, if you are interested in joining our organization, just drop us an email or a phone call.

We encourage all players to get as involved with all the opportunities that APA offers as they desire. We strive to serve our members with fairness, equality, care and attention. We hope that all who play in this league will tell their friends, relatives and acquaintances about the APA.
